Friends' Park

This approximately 9-acre neighborhood park is located in south Newberg, at the end of Corinne Dr. and Kennedy Dr., near Friends' Cemetery and the airport. Local neighborhood residents long sought and supported the development of a neighborhood park in this location, and participated in public meetings,  committee and subcommittee to help plan the development of the park and select playground equipment. Park amenities include a paved trail, playground, basketball court, and a large, flat, open space.

Fortune Park

Ewing Young is one of the most fascinating figures in the history of west.

Born in Tennessee in 1799, he made his living as a fur trapper and trader, and spent his entire adult life on the edge of the American frontier.

Permanent, non-native settlement of Newberg and Yamhill County begins with Young’s arrival in 1834.

Scott Leavitt Park

The park first became a reality in 1966 and its namesake is one of the most interesting civic leaders to ever reside in Newberg.

Schaad Park

Tom Gail Park was dedicated on July 12, 2008. It was made possible with a gift of 3.25 acres, thanks to the generosity of Tom Gail, a physician who practiced medicine locally for over 40 years.

Jaquith Park

Jaquith Park is named for Walter Jaquith, a Newberg minister, and one of five original board members of the district when it was founded in June 1965.

Jaquith’s work to help create new parks had actually begun in 1963.

At that time, he led a group of local civic leaders in a series of meetings to discuss how best to serve the growing recreational needs of the city.

Crater Park was dedicated in 1999. It honors the extraordinary life of Antonia Crater, who passed away in December 1993 at age 95, and who was one of the original organizers of Chehalem Park and Recreation District.

Born in Germany, Antonia moved to the United States with her family in 1903.
