Swim Lessons
Swim lesson registration is open now. At Chehalem Parks and Recreation District, our swim lesson program and levels focus on the natural learning progressions established by the American Red Cross. At each level, swim skills include age-appropriate water safety information as well as swimming progression and technique.
Group and private swim lessons are currently dependent on instructor availability. The Aquatics Specialist here at Chehalem Aquatics & Fitness Center individually schedules private lessons from our private lesson wait list. Private lessons cannot be registered for online. If you are interested in private lessons and would like to be placed on our waiting list, please call 503-538-4813 or email kmiller@cprdnewberg.org for more information.
Our school year program schedule consists of lessons on: Mon/Wed (35-Minutes), Tues/Thurs (35-minute), and once a week 45-minute lessons Friday (with special programming for Winter & Spring Break). Scheduling and lesson times are dependent on our instructor's availability. We typically have afternoon and evening time slots available.
Summer lesson programming consists of weekly Monday – Friday lessons (with special programming for the Fourth of July holiday). These lessons schedules will run from June 24 – August 30, 2024 for AM & PM lesson times pending instructor availability.
If you are unsure as to level of lesson your swimmer should be in please read our "WSI - What Swim Level is my Child?" document at the bottom of the page.

Water Polo Lessons
CPRD Water Polo Lessons are designed to introduce the sport of water polo to children ages 6-14. The intent is to provide basic skills and understanding of the sport in a recreational format. CPRD Water Polo Lessons harness all the fun, dynamic aspects of the game in a safe, easy-to-learn aquatic experience that will motivate kids to swim and stay fit. We do highly recommend that your swimmer has participated in and has mastered most of Level 3 Swimming or has passed CPRD's Level 3 swim level to participate in Water Polo 1/2 classes.
Water Polo is also unique in aquatic sports in that it provides the team element that supports social development. Participants and parents alike expect these activities to have a social and interactive component that can help develop these critical life skills.
What makes Water Polo a great way to experience the water?
- It’s fun - the kids play games while they are learning
- Teamwork - building skills in a team environment with friends
- Develops stronger foundation of aquatic skills by including water polo aspects of swimming
- Some of the basic skills around water polo are focused on water safety (eggbeater kick and treading water)
Focused on learning the basic skills of water polo, and learning to swim while having FUN! Water Polo Lessons are the NON-CONTACT version of water polo for children of all ages, but is primarily focused on the 6-14 age bracket. Participants will become competent swimmers, learn the basics of water polo, and the values of the game. Water Polo Lessons will introduce and teach participants about teamwork, camaraderie, leadership, sportsmanship, and other invaluable life lessons throughout their participation in the lesson.

Registration:
Swimmers can be registered through our online registration site at: https://anc.apm.activecommunities.com/cprd/home?onlineSiteId=0&from_original_cui=true&locale=en-US
Students are registered according to age as well as swimming proficiency (Please refer to "What Swim Level is My Child?" at the bottom of the page).
No early registration will be permitted. Registration will not take place until the opening time indicated in the above table.
When registering school age swimmers, take into consideration that School-Age lessons take place in 3.5 feet of water. Swimmers with a height of 48-inches may have better ease in the water during lessons.
When registering preschool & tiny tot swimmers, take into consideration that Preschool-Age Lessons take place in 18-22 inches of water.
Register online (see the blue button above), in-person (Chehalem Aquatic & Fitness Center at 1802 Haworth Avenue), or directly by phone (503-538-4813).
Accidental Fecal/vomit release protocol (AFR): Per OHA & CDC the entire pool must immediately be cleared. *Patrons must remain out of the water until management gives the all clear* Staff will skim out all the debris and raise Chlorine levels to appropriate level to kill all germs. Diarrheal discharge cancels all programming for 24 hours. Aquatic management will verify cancelation of current and future programs. If the AFR occurs within the first 45 minutes of the swim time, the front desk will have courtesy coupons available for those who would like to pick one up on their way out.
