Babe

Babe Nicklous worked for the District for more than 30 years.

Among his many achievements, Babe helped in the planning and development of more than 18 new parks. When he retired as assistant superintendent in 1998, the park formerly known as Pool Park was named in his honor as a lasting tribute to his long and distinguished career.

Babe was born in Newberg in 1933 and attended Newberg Union High, graduating in 1952. He died on Feb. 7, 2016 at the age of 83.

For the next four years, he served his country as crew chief for F-89 jet fighters in the United States Air Force, returning home to Newberg in 1956 to begin civilian life. He worked for the City of Newberg, then transitioned to the newly created park and recreation district.
