Trails Committee application window open through Sept. 20

CPRD Board unanimously votes to continue committee for another term

Citizens who are interested in trails in Newberg and Dundee are invited to apply to serve on Chehalem Heritage Trails Citizens' Advisory Committee. Terms are for two years. This volunteer committee will be limited to seven members, five who reside in the district, and two who live outside its boundaries. (CPRD approximately covers Newberg and Dundee; the boundary map is available on the CPRD website at cprdnewberg.org.) While each advisory committee determines its own meeting schedule, committees typically meet once a month and occasionally outside of meetings for special events.

The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2024. Applications can be downloaded from the CPRD website. The board is expected to appoint members at its Sept. 26th meeting.

The purpose of the committee is "to provide recommendations to the CPRD Board of Directors regarding new and developing trails and pathways within the Chehalem Heritage Trails network of pedestrian, bicyclist, equestrian, water, and any other modality of trails, and work to create a volunteer base and network for trail maintenance."

The original trails committee formed in 2021 concluded its work this August. Board members praised the committee for their dedication and expressed appreciation for their work, which included a public survey; recommendations for managed use and signage at Bob and Crystal Rilee Park; and a volunteer trails maintenance event at Bob & Crystal Rilee Park on 2023 National Trails Day, in which 85 people participated.

At its 2024 August meeting, Chehalem Park and Recreation District Board of Directors unanimously voted to continue the committee and reopen to new applications. Former members are welcome to apply.

To apply, download the application form at the bottom of this page, complete it and submit either by email or drop off at the CPRD Adminstration Office or Chehalem Aquatic and Fitness Center.
