Newberg Youth Basketball Grades 4-8

Newberg Youth Basketball

We are pleased to announce that Chehalem Park and Recreation District and Newberg High School Basketball will partner to form the Newberg Youth Basketball teams for the 2024-25 season.

The goal of Newberg Youth Basketball is to promote and support competitive basketball in the Newberg community.  We will strive to create a positive team environment while focusing on fundamental basketball skills and the development of competitive basketball habits.

Boys: from 5:30-6:45pm at NHS.

Girls: from 6:45-8pm at NHS.

What To Expect at Tryouts:

Registration confirmation and tryout number assignments.  Players will receive a number to place on their shorts during the tryout.

Each player will have a photo taken for the team selection process by NHS Basketball Staff.

Please plan to attend the parent meeting after tryouts for an explanation of the team selection process and a Q & A session regarding the 2024-25 season.

Eligibility:

Newberg Youth Basketball rules require all players in grades 4-8 reside within the Newberg School District boundary to be eligible for the 2024-25 season.  Each player must attend at least one of the tryout dates to be eligible to participate in the Newberg Youth Basketball program.  Players will be independently evaluated by the NHS coaching staff at tryouts; placement on Newberg Youth Basketball teams is not guaranteed.

Practices:

Newberg Youth Basketball teams will have at least three 90 minute practices each week in Newberg School District gymnasiums.  Practices will begin the first week in November and will be scheduled based on the head coach's preference.  Since practice is where the majority of player and team development occurs, attendance is incredibly important.  Lack of attendance at practices will result in a loss of playing time for players.

Tournaments:

Newberg Youth Basketball teams will compete in local tournaments on the weekends.  Team coaches, with guidance from the Newberg Youth Basketball leadership, will select tournaments over the course of the season suitable for their team.  Typical locations for these tournaments include Sherwood, McMinnville, Forest Grove, Canby, Hillsboro, Tualatin and Tigard.  Teams will compete in no more than two tournaments during a month, seven tournaments total.  If a team qualifies for the State Tournament, coaches and parents can choose to register for that tournament as an eighth tournament, but the entry fee will not be covered by Newberg Youth Basketball.

Cost:

Player fees for the Newberg Travel Basketball are $350 for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

Fees for participation in the Newberg Youth Basketball cover:

  • 7 Tournaments Fees
  • Game uniform
  • Shooting shirt
  • Insurance for each participant

Participants will keep the shooting shirt and uniform.  Please be advised, starting next year, game uniforms can be reused.  Should you choose to utilize your existing uniform, a deduction of $125 will be applied to the registration fee.
