About the Committee

The original trails committee formed in 2021 concluded its work in August 2024. Board members praised the committee for their dedication and expressed appreciation for their work, which included a public survey; recommendations for managed use and signage at Bob and Crystal Rilee Park; and a volunteer trails maintenance event at Bob & Crystal Rilee Park on 2023 National Trails Day, in which 85 people participated.

How it formed: On August 26, 2021, the CPRD Board of Directors appointed all seventeen applicants to the first-ever Chehalem Heritage Trails Advisory Committee. ​Board liaisons appointed to the committee were Bart Rierson and Jim McMaster.

The purpose of the committee is to provide recommendations to the CPRD Board of Directors regarding new and developing trails and pathways within the Chehalem Heritage Trails network of pedestrian, bicyclist, equestrian, water, and any other modality of trails, and work to create a volunteer base and network for trail maintenance.

Milestones

• Sept. - Oct. 2023 - The committee administered a community trails survey.
• June 3, 2023 - The committee hosted a volunteer trails maintenance event at Bob & Crystal Rilee Park on National Trails Day. Eighty-five people participated.
• Dec. 2022 - Jill Bilka resigned, and Quentin Comus was elected president. 
• Feb. 9, 2022 -The committee organized itself into three subcommittees: Planning, Funding, and Engagement.
• Sept. 8, 2021 - The committee's inaugural meeting took place.The committee appointed a chairperson, Jill Bilka, and a secretary, Erin Robinson.
