Pools are filled. Dropslide and bulkhead are installed. Office furniture is beginning to be moved in - cabinets, etc.

Decks are poured, and the competition pool is filled with water to test the concrete sides.

Development of front parking lot is the focus.

The first pool bottom has been poured - the deep pool in the leisure pool.

The hole has been dug for the leisure pool, so the shape of things to come is beginning to emerge. Plans for landscaping have been submitted, finalized, and can now be seen on updated renderings.
December 2016
Work begins in earnest. Trees are cleared and CPRD issues statement on their removal. Parking is adjusted and then adjusted again.

One of our architects spent her day answering questions on the plans for the aquatic center renovation on June 28. Early conceptual drawing are becoming more complete with permitting to begin in late July. Cost estimating also continues and balancing the list of wants with available funds continues to be a challenge. The Pool Public Advisory Committee and CPRD board have been an integral part of the decision making process. The groundbreaking has been moved to October, date TBA, weather-permitting.

While we haven't posted an update in a while, know that a lot of activity is going on behind the scenes, and the project is still on schedule. The citizen committees continue to meet; the staff, board, architects and contractors continue to develop the plans, submit for permitting, collect information, and move forward.
October 14, 2015
About 50 people turned out for the Oct. 13th public meeting at the cultural center. To see the preliminary site plans and conceptual drawings the architects shared, click here. Read the Oct. 13th meeting notes.
October 1st and 2nd Geotechnical investigation took place on the site. This work was performed by Carlson Testing, in order to determine any Seismic hazards, water infiltration ability, groundwater levels, and soil content. Simply put, this work will determine building structural needs, as well as rainwater infiltration.

We are pleased to announce that the Energy Trust of Oregon has awarded CPRD $2,500, in recognition of completing a team meeting and demonstrating attention to energy efficiency in this project.

Public meeting to unveil site and floorplan will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13th at Chehalem Cultural Center lobby. At this meeting, the design team will be presenting the proposed site and floorplan as well as conceptual images of the building. Anyone interested is encouraged to attend.

The firms CPRD has hired for Phase I are Carlson Testing Inc. for geotechnical testing, and Frontier Land Surveying, LLC for land survey services.

At its June 25th meeting, CPRD Board of Directors approved Triplett Wellman as contractor for Phase 1. Triplett Wellman is based in Woodburn, Oregon, and has worked previously with CPRD on Chehalem Cultural Center. The Board also approved the following committees:

May 8, 2015 Communitywide public meeting on pool renovation will be held May 27
Chehalem Park and Recreation District will hold a public meeting in conjunction with architect SEA (Scott Edwards Architecture) in order to review preliminary concepts and discuss the aquatic and fitness center renovation, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, at Chehalem Cultural Center. Anyone interested in the renovation is encouraged to attend.
May 6, 2015 CPRD taking applications for pool renovation bond oversight committee
CPRD is taking applications for the Chehalem Aquatic Center Ballot Measure Citizens’ Advisory Committee. This bond oversight committee will monitor the activities and expenditures of CPRD as the renovation is completed, reviewing procedures and safeguards in order to ensure consistency with the requirements of Ballot Measure 36-170, which was passed on Nov. 14, 2014. The Board will appoint three persons to this committee, one of whom will be a Certified Public Accountant, and another a member of the Oregon State Bar Association (preference will be given to a retired member of the Oregon Judiciary). Applications can be downloaded from the employment section at cprdnewberg.org or picked up at the administration office at 125 S. Elliott Road, or at registration desk, located inside the aquatic center at 1802 Haworth Ave.. Both are in Newberg. The application deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, June 19th. The Board will appoint the committee members at its regular June 25th meeting.
CPRD appointing Pool Public Advisory Committee (PPAC)
CPRD Board of Directors will appoint a PPAC in order to involve interested public in the renovation of Chehalem Aquatic Center. This committee will work with CPRD staff and the project architect. Its roles and scope of work will be discussed at the June 25th regular Board meeting. The Board will appoint six members of Chehalem Pool Committee, two people to represent swimming and water polo, two people to represent the fitness center (which is not related to aquatics), one person to present the senior community which also uses the property, and CPRD staff to include the parks and facilities supervisor and recreation staff.

CPRD Board of Directors approved the contract with Scott Edwards Architecture (SEA) for architectural design services. Discussion of the Citizen Bond Oversight Committee will continue at the 6 p.m. meeting on April 9th, at Ewing Young Park.
March 25, 2015 Schedule announced for public meetings
7:00 - 9:00 p.m., Wed., April 22 - General Public Meeting with pool architects - All are welcome and encouraged to attend. The General Public Meeting is an opportunity to meet the Design Team and discuss goals, ideas and thoughts about the new Aquatic and Fitness Center.
Special Interest Stakeholder Meetings with pool architects - The following meetings will focus on specific areas of interest. These are public meetings, but we anticipate attendance will be limited to people who have special interest in these topics.

CPRD has narrowed the three finalists to one. CPRD Board of Directors anticipate making a determination at the 6 p.m. Thursday, March 26 regular meeting. CPRD is also arranging for a company to survey the property for construction. Check this webpage again for announcements on public meetings, schematic drawings and announcements.

Ten architects submitted applications to the Request for Qualifications. A selection committee-- comprised of one CPRD Board member, two CPRD staff, and two people from the public—narrowed the applicants to three finalists. These three architects have been invited to submit proposals to our Request for Proposals, with a submission deadline of Feb. 6, 2015. The selection committee will review these proposals and make recommendations to the CPRD Board of Directors, TENTATIVELY scheduled for the regular Board meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at the CPRD Administration Office.
Initial activity following the November 2014 election
- Election results were certified in Yamhill County Elections Office, and were ratified by CPRD Board of Directors in December 2014.
- An internal staff meeting was held on Nov. 10th with Board counsel in order to set standards for issuing bonds.
- Request for Qualifications was published in Newberg Graphic (Nov. 12, 2014 edition) and online on the Bid and Proposals section of the CPRD website.
- After RFQ was completed, the Request for Proposals was released.
- Chehalem Pool Committee became the Bond Oversight Committee, to ensure appropriate fulfillment of Bond intentions.
